Ok, so many of you will remember my pumpkin obsession - well, I've found yet another place to add it in! I know - breaking news, right?
Anyway, I've been making my own popsicles for Addie this summer. They are her favourite treat, and with all the crazy heat we've been having, it's one of our afternoon traditions. We grab a pop and sit on the back steps and chat. But I want her to have a treat that also packs a healthy punch (have you read the back of store-bought popsicle packages? There's a whole lot of crap in there!) so I started making my own - just mixing up fresh, organic fruit (or local), yogurt, a little apple butter for a bit more sweetness, and some water. I toss it all in the magic bullet (yes, I broke down and bought one, and yes, it was worth it!), pour into the molds, and voila!
This past week I had a can of pumpkin and after making my usual muffins and oatmeal with it, I thought "Why not throw a few tbsps in the popsicle mix?" So I mixed it with the peaches and seriously, you would never know!
Ok, so now that I've managed to drag a fairly mundane topic on for FAR too long, there's a second part of this post. I'm now the Toronto writer-in-residence for a mommy site, yoyomama.ca, and my most recent article was about making healthy (low-sugar) summer treats. Here's the link to the article if you're interested - there's a great recipe at the end for homemade (easy) frozen fruity yogurt, courtesy of the book Sprout Right: Nutrition from Tummy to Toddler. Enjoy!
